Stories of Five Cross-Cultural Experiences
The people of the Earth grew in number and their villages began to spread across the land. There were seven powerful spirits, called grandfathers, whose job it was to look out for creation. They looked at the villages and saw that their people were troubled. Troubled with disease and fighting amongst each other. The grandfathers sent a messenger to find the right person to learn their lessons and to teach others.
The first six times, the spirit messenger could not find a worthy person. Finally, on the messenger’s seventh try, he found a baby boy, too young to even walk, and decided that the baby was the perfect messenger—he was untouched with pain and corruption and could learn what the grandfathers needed to teach him. The messenger left tobacco and clothing to show his parents that the boy would be taken care of and brought him to the grandfathers.
The boy discovered that 1) To cherish knowledge is to know wisdom 2) To know LOVE is to know peace 3) To honor all of the Creation is to have RESPECT 4) BRAVERY is to face the foe with integrity. 5) HONESTY in facing a situation is to be brave. 6) HUMILITY is to know yourself as a sacred part of the Creation. 7) TRUTH is to know all of these things.
